５．School Study Materials/Supplies

Elementary School Supplies

In elementary school there are various supplies that students are required to bring to school regularly. You will need to purchase these supplies prior to the start of the school year. To avoid confusion or loss of property, Please make sure that your child’s name is written clearly on all of his or her supplies. In Japan, elementary students are required to use a special kind of backpack, called “randoseru” in Japanese. Below are the names and pictures of the items your child will need to have.

※ Depending on your child’s grade year and the school he/she attends, there may be additional required items. The school teachers/faculty will inform you of any other necessary supplies, so please ensure that your child has these items as well.

Junior High School Supplies

Generally, junior high schools will inform you of any needed supplies. The supplies required may vary depending on your child’s classroom situation. There are various influencing factors (school, grade year, class work, etc.) so please listen carefully to the instructions given by the teachers and faculty. Students will also be required to wear uniforms starting from junior high school. The school decides what the students will wear for their uniforms. Please make sure to purchase and prepare whatever is needed for your child’s uniform. Additionally, if the school uniform requires that certain accessories are needed. (particular type of shoes, school bags, etc.) then you will be required to purchase these as well.
