Families can choose to enroll their children into any kindergartens that they prefer. Some kindergartens hold a special day where they allow prospective parents and children to attend the school for one day to observe and participate in the school day. To apply for admission into kindergarten, you should first attend the school’s general information session (called “nyuuen setsumeikai” in Japanese), where all information about the admission process is explained in detail. You will be required to fill out and submit an application on a specific day assigned by the school. All schools have a maximum capacity in terms of how many students they are able to accept (called “Teiin” in Japanese). Once they reach their maximum capacity, they will no longer accept any more application forms. Therefore, please turn in the admission application on the day specified by the school.
